Disc-doggin' Update: UFO Major/Ashley Whippet Qualifier

Danny here:

After a rocky road at the Skyhoundz Regional qualifier I was a bit discouraged with myself. But like they say, when you get bucked off the horse you need to just get right back on. That is exactly what we did. This weekend Guinan, Potter, and I went to Chicago for 2 days of Disc Dogging (we left Frodo to take care of the girls). Saturday was the Ashley Whippet Qualifier. The weather was great and the disc dogging was even greater. I went out and had a great time, as this picture shows:

There were 52 teams (I believe) competing for top honors. At the end of the day 3 teams got to stand on podium. We managed to be one of those teams (3rd Place).

If you look close at the picture you can see the guy sitting on the top is holding a Pitbull. The dogs name is Wallace and he a great dog who has a ton of fun catching discs.

Sunday was another competition for the UFO world cup (www.ufoworldcup.org) There were 54 teams competing in freestyle and 62 teams competing in Toss and Fetch for qualifying positions and for top honors.

Guinan and I had a blast. Our first round of freestyle was GREAT. We had a ton of energy out there and had a GREAT time.

Then we did our rounds of Toss and Fetch. Guinan and I used to be REALLY good at Toss and Fetch, but something happened and we stopped connecting. Well, on this day we turned things around. Our first round of Toss and Fetch put us into 3rd place, but our second round of toss and fetch was basically perfect. I won’t bore you with the details of how the field is scored, but let’s just say there is a bulls-eye at 40 meters down the field and if you try you might be able to get off 5 throws in a round. Guinan and I got off 5 throws/catches ALL in the bulls-eye. It felt really good to connect again. Our second round of freestyle was still very enjoyable but not quite the quality of the first round. At the end of the day Guinan and I took first in and Toss and Fetch and second in Freestyle, which does qualify us for the UFO World Cup Nationals in Florida, which we will see if we will be attending.

I did say Potter was also there (couldn’t forget the little guy). He was still to young to do much walking around with the other dogs(hasn't had all his shots yet), but here is a nice picture that was taken of Potter and I at the competition.

Isn’t he cute? ...and the puppy looks pretty good too!
