Skyhoundz Worlds 2007

Danny here everyone!

This years trips to worlds had its ups and downs. The most important thing is that this year Guinan did NOT get hurt. So that is a big positive for the year!

Well, here is the trip in a nut shell:
My dad and I left Thursday morning for a long 11 hour trip to Atlanta, with us we took Guinan and Potter. They both traveled great.

Friday was the open qualifier for the Skyhoundz worlds. Guinan and I competed in Freestyle and Distance and Accuracy. The Freestyle field of competition was REALLY tough. There were about 10-12 teams that were trying to get 1 of the 4 spots available for qualifying. Guinan and I got 6th place so we did not qualify. In Distance and Accuracy there were more competitiors than I have ever seen . I believe there were 128 teams competing to try and qualify. Guinan and I had some great rounds and took 1st place in that. So the day didn’t end too badly, we qualified in one of the two divisions we wanted to get into.

Saturday was the big freestyle competition. There was lots of great routines to watch. There was also a lot of fun times in the tents.

Below you will find my pairs partner, Christina, after spending to much time in the sun. :-)

And what is a mother without her child...here is her son Chandler showing off his great figure.

This kid is great. He is the youngest person to ever qualify for Skyhoundz Worlds Freestyle championship!

Also on Saturday I got the opportunity to see the World Championship trophy that Skyhoundz puts all the world champions on.

And due to last year -- there is someone you all know on it!

Sunday was a very hot and humid day, but there was still some great disc-dogging going on. On Sunday I was competiting in 2 divisions: Pairs Freestyle (2 people and 1 dog) and distance and accuracy. Distance and Accuracy went ok. I made a couple of bad throws and Guinan and I ended up getting 4th place. Missed out on 2nd by .5 points and missed out on 1st by 4 points. Pairs Freestyle was a rollercoaster. We did 2 rounds of freestyle. Our first round didn’t go very well. We think Guinan was too excited. We had MANY MANY drops. In fact here is a video of that routine:

After this routine we were running in 8th place out of 12 teams. I guess Guinan knew we needed to step it up for the next round. Our second round ROCKED (in my opinion). It was so much fun and looked great. Here is a picture from that round:

Because of our great second round we managed to move from 8th place to 3rd place and received some cool hardware and got to stand on the podium!

Overall it was a VERY good weekend that was a lot of fun. It took us another 11 hours to get home, but we did that over 2 days. After the competition on Sunday we travelled 4 hours north and got a hotel, then on Monday we travelled the other 7 hours. Can't wait for next year!
