Christmas Ornaments 2010
This year's Christmas blog is going to be all about the ornaments that Grandpa Egg made this year and whatever the story is behind the ornament. We think that he did an amazing job on the ornaments again this year.
The Play Set
This is the play set that was built for the kids in our backyard by Dad and Grandpa. But the key to the story is that 3.5 weeks later we had a bad storm that came through and "displaced" the play set to the other side of the backyard (it was in splintered pieces strewn across the yard). It was then rebuilt the next day by Dad, Grandpa, and Uncle Ben. Most of what is on this ornament is identical to the play set (including: number of steps, number of climbing wall pegs, ...)
The Angel Food Cake
Great Grandma Esther has complained that she never had an ornament so Grandpa decided it was time to get her one or two. This is the dessert that Great Grandma Esther always had for Grandpa whenever he came over to visit.
The Carmel Apple
There is a small story here. Great Grandma Esther claims that this is NOT true, but here is what happened. At a tennis match Esther was eating the Carmel and the chocolate off an apple OVER a trash can and once the chocolate was gone it "ACCIDENTALLY" fell in the trash. She has never lived that one down.
The Cactus
The is to represent the trip Grandpa and Mimi took to Arizona to visit Grandpa's brother. They had a ton of fun except that Mimi does not like to fly much!
The New Dog - Munch
Uncle Ben and Aunt Anita added a family member this year, and they named the little cutie, Munch (thus the sandwich with a bite outta it!)
The Lion
This past year Grandpa joined the Lions Club and has become a very active member. He currently is in charge of the Bi-Monthly newsletter, plus doing many things for Kids Sight.
The Fort
Fall of this past year, Uncle Ben took a new job in Fort Wayne. To represent the moving to Fort Wayne, Grandpa created a fort called "Wayne"
The Bulb
This spring Aunt Anita and Uncle Ben were at home one day and smelled something that made them think something electronic was burning. Had them a bit worried. They looked and looked for the cause, with no luck. About 2 weeks later they found that Aunt Anita had put a plastic headband over a lamp shade -- and resting against the light bulb it sort of melted to it... so Grandpa bought a hair accessory and let it melt to a light bulb (yes really!).
Feel free to leave us a comment on which ornament you like the best.

I love seeing the ornaments every year! I've got to vote for the swingset. The lion is also really cool!
How creative and so many good memories... would love to see a tree full of all the ornaments made by your dad. Linda
Linda,
we need to get a photo of it on here! Jim and Kathy's tree is full to bursting with them now -- nearly every branch!
