Eggleston Ornaments

My dad (Danny here) Jim makes Christmas ornaments every year. The ornaments have to do with events that have occurred during the year with members of the family. I thought we would share with everyone the ornaments that he made this year and what they meant. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Dad joined the Red Cross this year and has become very involved. He has been on many fire calls, he has even gone to Ohio for 2 weeks, and he has helped out with the tornado in Nappanee, and many other things.

This ornament signifies the trip dad made to North Carolina last January only to find that a pipe had busted in the kitchen because the furnace stopped working and the whole house flooded, causing him to spend MANY weeks there while it all got fixed.

If you can't tell what this represents then you haven't come to our blog often enough. This is our new house, in almost EVERY detail. The roof is the exact look of how our roof is done. Windows are all the right place, and so on.

We got a new dog named Potter, so he created a dog named Potter in a pot.

Danny's brother Ben started his 3rd new profession this year. He became a school teacher. No one was for certain if this is last stop on where the profession wagon stops, so why not put it on a rollway sign that could change.

Ben's girlfriend Anita needed to be initiated onto the tree, and since she works as a waitress at Bob Evans, he created a Waitress working at Bob Evans (you can't see the name tag, but it Says "Anita, Bob Evans"

Sydney turned 1 this year. That pretty much covers this "one".

Dad dresses up like Donald Duck every Halloween and travels the area. He decided it was worthy of a duck head on the tree and we all agree!

The tent above represents the sleeping quarters that Danny's brother, Ben and his girlfriend, Anita, had when they stayed in line all night at a new Chick-Fil-A to win 52 free meals for being 1 of the first 100 customers.

Mom and Dad's 35th anniversary.

I hope you think these are as amazing as we do, because we think they are COOL how good they are. If you are ever around their house at Christmas time you should stop over. The tree is so full of these ornaments that a second tree is now needed!

New Bedroom

We have been living in a world of hand-me-down furniture. We have been extremely grateful for it, but decided that after seven years of marriage it was time to get some new furniture in the bedroom. Here is what we replaced.

Right before Thanksgiving we started shopping around, with no luck at all. We couldn't find what we were looking for in the price range we were looking for it in. We found some wonderful Amish handmade stuff, that was WAY over priced. It was then suggested to us that we drive to Fort Wayne to look at furniture. Boy are we glad we went. The first place we went was Ashley Furniture and as soon as we walked in the door we saw what wanted, and after wandering around the store for an hour we ended up buying that set.

In early December a delivery truck (sort of like Santa!) showed up at our front door (instead of the roof). Bearing big guys (that look sort of like Santa) to carry in our wonderful new furniture.

Then they came in and put it all together. glad they were moving it and not us, it is REALLY heavy.

Visiting Santa!

We took Sydney to see Santa for the first time, at the mall today. We headed into the mall and found that there were even road signs to help us trace down the jolly old man.

When we found Saint Nick, Sydney was initially very excited and wanted to go see him.

But when time came to actually get up on his lap, things were different. All of a sudden he was this scary stranger when mom wasn't right there. It took a little work to not have her completely upset for a picture. Here is what we were able to take.

After we were done seeing Santa, Sydney wanted to write him a letter, so we took her to the writing station where she had more fun standing on the seats and crawling on the table.

To conclude our trip to see Santa Sydney decided that a bear look-a-like contest was needed. Who can look the most like the bear? It is spooky how close they are. Can you even tell which one is Sydney?

Merry Christmas!

Outside Christmas Lights

We took Sydney to a winding subdivision in our area that has contestes every year to see who has the best Christmas lighting and decorations: most unique, most traditional, etc. This makes for a very enjoyable drive through the subdivision. It is very well known. In fact it is so well known that they have police officers at night directing traffic into and out of the subdivision, with arrow flags to know which way to go while you are in the subdivision. We decided this was something for Sydney to experience. We sort of broke the law and took her out of her car seat and sat her up front with us. Didn't think it was too bad since the fastest car moving the subdivion was going 5 miles an hour. She loved it. It was great watching her swing her head around to look at both sides of the street, and pointing at things. In fact she tried to break our van because as we drove by a display she tried to stick her head out a closed window to look at the display behind us. She did this about 3 times!

When we left the subdivision to head home she started getting upset in the back seat, because Dad was driving too fast past other houses that had Christmas lights. I know this because she calmed right down soon as he slowed down when no cars where around.

More Holiday news to follow after Christmas! Merry Christmas everybody!
